Director, Business Development - Midwest

The Director, Business Development for the Midwest will lead the business strategy and origination for >1MW solar and solar + storage power purchase agreements in Illinois and other Midwest states. This person will join an experienced team with the initial objective of driving additional contracted BTM pipeline growth with commercial, industrial and public entity off takers in Illinois. With experience building long-term relationships and delivering compelling value propositions that reflect the various revenue streams and customer specific load profiles, this role will be supported by project development, finance, legal, and operations resources. This role will have the unique opportunity to build out and lead a business unit for US Solar focused directly on large scale BTM projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the business strategy and successfully secure a pipeline of BTM solar and solar + storage PPAs
  • Understand local project drivers and potential revenue streams to sculpt a value proposition and establish customer targets
  • Qualify potential customers and develop relationships to move the opportunity forward
  • Review customer load profiles and create compelling proposals to provide individualized value for each organization
  • Identify and present to key decision makers, negotiate terms, and overcome hurdles necessary to secure a PPA
  • Evaluate new BTM markets and execute comprehensive business cases to enhance pipeline growth
  • Collaborate with marketing, project development, finance, legal, and operations colleagues to secure PPAs and see them successfully to construction

Core Proficiencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in commercial PPA negotiations, with strong track record of success
  • Modeling solar and solar + storage benefits for potential customers
  • Developing product offering and delivering proposals which clearly demonstrate value proposition
  • Ability to take initiative to explore new project or product opportunities
  • Self-motivated and driven to exceed expectations

Requirements

  • 3+ years of demonstratable BTM solar sales experience in the industry
  • Proficiency with energy, solar policy, modeling, and PPA terms
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Experience in a similar role or utilizing a similar Core Proficiencies; experience and knowledge required
  • Strong analytical skills with knowledge of finance/business concepts
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of and passion for the solar marketplace, technology, and industry
